Filling Grandpa’s teacup, ripping the last char siu bao to share with Mum, furtive glances at the steam rising from a freshly steamed siu mai plonked unceremoniously on to the lazy susan hoping they’ll still be some left when it finally spins towards you. More than just a collection of small plates yum cha is our way to connect, to socialise, to entertain and to show our affection to each other through our shared love language of food.
